WHAT IS ABOUT: A MLM or multi-level marketing venture that is focused on the health and fitness niche.

OVERALL RATING:

WHAT IS OPTAVIA ALL ABOUT?

I was disappointed to learn that the official Optavia website does not give give one enough information regarding the origins of the company.

Upon visiting the BBB(Better Business Bureau),I discovered that Dr. Wayne Andersen is one of the co-founders of Optavia. The CEO is a certain Mr.Daniel Chaird with Mr.Jason Groves serving as the executive vice president.

The Optavia company has been in existence for 16 years and their headquarters are based in Baltimore.

I believe that the company is a rebrand. I found records of an old compensation plan. This document was in fact for a company called Take Shape for Life. Upon clicking on the link within the document, one is taken to the official Optavia website.

Optavia Review optavia is a rebrand

I believe that Take Shape For Life is now known as Optavia.

As I had mentioned earlier on, the company is focused on the health and wellness industry. It's a slightly different model compared to your traditional MLM business.

From the business side of things, you have the option to register as an Optavia health coach. Your job is to help or coach others to achieve good health using the various Optavia products. In turn you get compensated for your efforts.

I will get into more detail as to how you get paid shortly. You can purchase their products by visiting either the official website or from one of the Optavia's coach's website.

Let me show you what the products are all about.

THE OPTAVIA PRODUCTS- IT MAY NOT BE FOR EVERYONE

Should you decide to join the Optavia weight loss program, you have the option of choosing from one of their 3 flagship weightloss programs.

They are as follows

  • Optimal Weight (5 & 1 Program)
  • Optimal Weight (4&2&1 Program)
  • Optimal Health (3&3 Program)

So, what does the ( 5 & 1 or 4&2&1 ) actually mean?

Basically there are three parts incorporated into these programs. The first is their Fuelings.

Optavia health products what are the optavia fuelings

THE OPTAVIA FUELINGS

Some of their fuelings include shakes, brownies, bars, pancakes, and mac and cheese.According to their website, the Optavia fuelings are gluten free and non-gmo.The purpose of their fuelings to help you to retain lean muscle mass.

The second part of their program they teach you how to go about making your own 'lean and green meals.' These meals are intended to give you an optimal dosage of proteins and vegetables.

The last component is to incorporate a healthy snack of your choice in any of the required 6 meals that they recommend as part of the program. You can choose from a starch, fruit or a dairy product.

When they say (5&1 or 4&2&1 program) they telling you that you need to have 5 fuelings and 1 'lean and green meals in the case of the 5&1 program. With respect to the 4&2&1 program, its 4 fuelings, 2 'lean and green meals' and 1 snack.

How much do these Optavia products costs?

How much do Optavia products costs
  • The Essential Optimal kit(5&1 plan) will cost you $392.12.
  • The Essential Optimal kit(4&2&1) will cost you $435
  • The Optimal Health Plan(3&3) will cost you $309

All of these kits will last you one month.

They also offer health plan guides and their own trademarked hydration product which cost $39.95 for 30 sachets.

In my opinion these products are not exactly cheap. The big question is, do they really work?

On their website there are a couple of transformational stories.

On the flipside , there were around  53 Optavia customer complaints on the BBB website.

Is Optavia a scam optavia customer complaints

In all fairness, the company has resolved these complaints.

How can you make money with Optavia?

Let me show you.

THE OPTAVIA COMPENSATION PLAN- A SLIGHT TWIST IN THE MLM ARENA

To get started with the Optavia business, you would need to register as an Optavia Coach. You would have to purchase the starter kit for $199 which includes, 12 months access to your website, plan information, branded stationery and other tools.

Is Optavia a scam? How does Optavia work

As an Optavia coach, your job is to help "others realize lifelong transformation," and you in turn will be compensated for your efforts.

As a coach you can earn on orders that are placed by the clients that you personally sponsor. They can place orders directly through your personalized website.

You earn a 15% commission on the Personal Volume of these orders. You can earn an additional 3% bonus if you become a certified Optavia coach. They also offer Client support bonuses, Coach Consistency and Client Acquistion Bonuses.

Should you focus then on the building of your team, you can earn growth bonuses. These are bonuses that you earn on orders that are placed by other coaches and teams within your downline.

The Optavia compensation plan

Finally, they have leadership bonuses which is a 0.5% override of a Leaders entire business up to the first business leader.

There are three bonuses associated with this part namely,

  • National Elite Leadership Bonus
  • Global Elite Leadership Bonus
  • Presidential Elite Leadership Bonus

I have given you the simplified version. In all honesty, I found the compensation plan complicated with all their rankings, qualifications and points system going on.

Bottom Line: Become a Coach, get others to become a coach and place orders. Teach your coaches to get more coaches and place orders and so forth.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE OPTAVIA BUSINESS

I like the fact that the Optavia products are GMO-FREE and are certified gluten free.

I think that they have chosen a great market to target, the weight loss industry. It's an evergreen niche, though it can be a bit competitive.

It's great to see that Optavia is registered with the Direct Selling Association(or DSA)

WHAT I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT THE OPTAVIA BUSINESS

There is limited growth potential. You cannot grow Optavia to a global business. At the moment they only operate in United States. They have plans to expand to the Asian markets, namely Singapore and Hong Kong in the near future.

Compensation plan is not straight forward to understand.

Your health is in the balance with an Optavia Health Coach. With all due respect not all health coaches will come from a background of understanding diseases. Having said that, the correct advice must be given in certain circumstances. Can you be certain that you will be well advised?

Optavia products are expensive. In addition, you need to pay for the starter kit and there will be a renewal fee.

It can work out to be a costly affair.

IS OPTAVIA A SCAM? MY PERSONAL OPINION

I do not think that Optavia is a scam given the fact that they have been 16 years in the multi-level marketing industry. However, should you be thinking of signing up, consider these two aspects first.

1.Are you ready to invest in these products and give it a real shot?

If you want to make a success of selling anything, then you have got to buy, use and test the product yourself.

Should these products resonate with you and you find genuine results, the task will be much easier to sell to others.

Makes sense?

2.Are You Ready for the MLM-Challenge?

Optavia is focused on the health and fitness niche. That is good thing, but that also means that the competition is going to be tough.

Should you be looking at wanting to make serious money within this business sector, you need to focus on the building of your downline, in other words recruiting.

I was a bit disappointed to learn that the company does not have any recent income disclosure results on their website. The best that I could find, is one that is dated back to 2013, when the company was known as Take Shape For Life.

Is optavia a scam, the optavia income disclosure is outdated

I know that there is alot of information going on in the chart above. Simply focus on the area I highlighted. Can you see that the larger percentage of coaches earn the lowest salaries or commissions? The coaches with the higher earnings make up the smaller groups in the company.

In other words, the higher ranks earn more. That means you need to focus on recruiting and the building of your down- line. Are you someone who loves to recruit?

If so, then perhaps Optavia is the right business for you?

HOW CAN I EARN MONEY WITHOUT RECRUITING?

What if you are someone who does not like the idea of having to recruit in order to earn money? Or, you do not want to be a coach or interact with people, and do not like the idea of having to buy products all the time?

There is an alternative way to making money online. You can build an online business without having to recruit. There are some awesome advantages to owning an online business as well.

In fact, you build a business based on your own passion, or hobbies. It's called affiliate marketing, and here are the other awesome benefits that it offers.

Affiliate Marketing gives you;

  • Flexibility, so you can work at it anytime, from anywhere
  • The ability to make profits without having your own product
  • The ability to operate a world wide business
  • The ability to start a business with low overheads
  • The ability to sell without cold calling
  • The freedom to make money without recruiting
  • The chance to learn and earn, even if you are a complete newbie.

  2. Hi Roopesh

Another MLM where the people at the top make the big dollars and people starting out earn very little if anything.

What really annoys me is this. if a company is so great why does it cost people so much money every month to be able to continue to buy wholesale- Surely these companies could make it easier for everyday people who really need to lose weight a chance to buy products without such big costs. People struggle these days and when MLM’s come along I feel people should be warned

I am going to take a look at your other recommendation as it looks promising- Thank you

  3. It feels good reading about optavia here. Though, I have had series of very bad days with MLM businesses and I have taken a decision against getting myself engaged with them ever again because I really lost hugely. My downlines were unwilling to work hard. So, after recruiting, I was still making all efforts to selling the products by myself which made everything gruesome for me. The price of products here seems huge but still affordable though. But I’m still unyielding to engage in MLM for now. Though, its nice knowing the pros of this optavia and their credibility for being so long in market.

    • Hey there

So sorry to hear about your experience with the MLM industry. At the end of the day, we all function differently when it comes to business. I think that its a challenge to expect everyone in ones downline to work exactly as passionately as you. I too had the same experience.

That is one of the main reasons why I like the affiliate marketing business model, as it does not require you to recruit to earn money.

      You can learn more here.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

  4. Good Morning Roopesh,

Reading your story it must have been frustrating to lose all your savings over 5 years of working hard. Good, you did not give up and found Wealthy Affiliate.

Now your post on Optavia. I have done various MLM in my life. Some were good and others really bad. I am still with Forever Living Products of America as their Aloe Vera products are very good.

Optavia fuelings are gluten free and have no GMO, something which is very important nowadays. To have to renew your membership every year I think is not positive. and I would not do that.

All in all, I have enough experience with MLMs to say it is not for me anymore. Thank you for the information.

  5. Hello

This article was a very interesting read. Sadly, there are a lot of platforms that trick people into signing up for MLM schemes. People. are generally ill-informed about the framework and hence fall prey to these scams. I appreciate people like you who take up the initiative and offer real reviews about these schemes.

    Thanks for sharing!
