Is RedBubble a Scam? [What is The Catch With This Print-on-Demand Business?]

Welcome to my Redbubble review. Is Redbubble a scam or it is a good way of making money online?

If you are artistic or someone who enjoys creating eye-catching designs, then you might be considering joining Redbubble. It's a place that accepts your unique designs and pays you whenever a product with your design is sold. You do not need a website to get started.

One of the other benefits of starting a print-on-demand business is that the costs are also very low, or it can be nothing at all. So, is it really worth your while?

Before I dive straight into my Redbubble review, feel free to check out my NR.1 passive income creator. As a pharmacist, I was a complete newbie and this teaching platform helped me to build a full-time online career.

WHAT IS REDBUBBLE ALL ABOUT?

The Redbubble.com site came into operation back in 2006. The owners are from Melbourne, Australia. The current acting CEO of Redbubble is Martin Hosking. He and Paul Vanzella founded Redbubble.

Redbubble review what is redbubble all about. The site featured various different products and the designs are created by various different artists

The main idea behind this platform is to give independent artists a chance to showcase designs and provide an opportunity to make money from their talent.

They have over 700 000 artists and designers.

If you were to visit the site, you would notice that they sell popular 'every-day' items with very unique and eye-catching artwork.

They feature cool stuff such as :

  • Clothing
  • Stickers
  • Masks
  • Phone Cases
  • Wall Art
  • Home and Living
  • Kids and Baby Products
  • Accessories
  • Stationery
  • Gifts

Let's take a look and see how the platform actually works!

HOW DOES REDBUBBLE WORK?

To get started with Redbubble, there are two options. You can either sign-up as an artist, or as a customer.

Redbubble review how to sign-up with redbubble

As an artist, you can set up your own online shop where you can get cracking with the submitting of your various designs.

At the end of the day, Redbubble acts as a Print-on-Demand business. All you have to do as a Rebubble member is provide the designs.

The company has the tools to place your designs on a variety of products, such as the above list.

So, provide the design, Redbubble will cover the physical product creation and ship the item to the customer.

Many new artists were concerned that maybe they might need special, or expensive and sophisticated software to get the designing work done.

Do you really need it?

DO YOU NEED EXPENSIVE SOFTWARE FOR REDBUBBLE?

Do you really need special software such as Adobe Illustrator to create your Redbubble designs?

Some of the more experienced designers on Redbubble were helping the newer members with this query on a specific thread.

Redbubble review do you need expensive software to start your redbubble business

The bottom line is that if you can afford Adobe Illustrator, then go for it. Even with regards to Photoshop. You can use that too, to turn a photograph or multiple pictures into a design.

However, nothing stops you from using the free alternatives. You can use Gimp or Inkspace to get started.

Interestingly some folks even suggested using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher to get the job done. So you have many options here.

CAN YOU GET GOOD TRAINING WITH REDBUBBLE?

You can learn a lot from reading their blog.No site is perfect and you will learn some of the Redbubble problems and solutions here.

They also offer some really helpful information. I read one blog where you can learn some key tips on how you can get started with a blog and get it ready just in time for the upcoming holidays.

In fact, did you know that you can get your website framework in under 30 seconds?

Then they have general tips on time-management. I think that one of the most informative blog articles is about tagging.

Redbubble review how to do tagging as a means to increase exposure to your redbubble designs

How do you stand out? How do you get your designs seen by the customers amongst the competition?

This particular blog talked about using relevant tagging on your products. Tagging is like keywords. When a visitor is looking for a specific product and if one of their search phrases has your tags in it, it would increase the likelihood of your item showing up as one of the results.

Hence, your item will get the exposure that it needs.

Another part of their training that I also liked was their section on working out the key mark-ups for your items.

They have default mark-ups already assigned to each of the product categories. You can change this if you want to. At this point, you might be wondering how to work out your actual profit margins.

Don't worry I am going to show you that shortly. Let's take a look at their payment method first.

HOW DO YOU GET PAID FROM REDBUBBLE?

You get paid via Paypal. They do have a $20 payment threshold though. That means that only once you reach this limit, can you request a payout.

They process payments on the 15th of every month. If you have not reached this limit by then, then you will have to wait for the next payment cycle.

HOW MUCH DOES REDBUBBLE MAKE ON EVERY SALE?

Redbubble review how is the retail price worked out

The RETAIL PRICE is made up of the BASE PRICE and the ARTIST MARGIN.

The base price is what covers Redbubble's service fee and the costs of manufacturing the physical goods. That is Redbubble's cut.

The ARTIST MARGIN is your cut. It shows how much you can make off a sale.

How is the Artist Margins worked out?

Earlier on I talked about the mark-ups. Whatever your mark-up is, and multiplied by the BASE PRICE gives you the Artist Margin.

They also go on talking about Sales and Discounts, as well as Taxes, but you can get more details from the official Redbubble website.

As far as Redbubble reviews are concerned, are people happy with using this platform?

Let's take a look in the next section.

REDBUBBLE REVIEWS- REDBUBBLE COMPLAINTS OR COMPLIMENTS

At Trustpilot.com RedBubble has around 14,000 reviews. They scored an average of 3.8 stars. 64% of these were positive reviews, so that is a good thing.

Redbubble reviews trustpilot

However, the downside to this is that most of these reviews were from the customers who purchased from the site and not from the artists themselves.

In fact , there were two reviews from artists, and both of them were not happy at all. Here is one such review.

Redbubble complaints

On a positive note, Redbubble has a pretty active FaceBook following of 900 000 users. And here I have noticed that the independent artists are allowed to drop their link or promote their Redbubble store.

Is Redbubble a scam?

Let's take a quick look at the pros and cons of this business opportunity.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT REDBUBBLE

It's free to register.

They accept worldwide registrations.

They accept Paypal.

You can potentially earn a passive income.

WHAT I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT REDBUBBLE

They have a fairly high payment threshold.

Not enough feedback or testimonials from the artists.

Insufficient marketing training.

Unable to cross-promote to previous customers.(These customer email addresses will fall under the Redbubble database)

No control over upselling or bundle promotions.

IS REDBUBBLE A SCAM? MY PERSONAL OPINION

Is Redbubble a legit site?

One of the best parts of starting a print-on-demand business is that you are free from worrying about hefty overheads. Some of these are staff expenses, rent, and product expenditure.

You also do not have to worry about after-sales customer queries or delivery fees. That too is taken care of by Redbubble.

The only thing that you would have to worry about, is to create compelling, unique, and eye-catching designs that people would buy.

I think that Redbubble is a legit site. There are many customers who are happy with purchasing from them. However, from the artist's side, there are not many positive testimonials.

They also offer limited training on marketing one's design on the Redbubble website. I think that as a newbie it might not be that easy to get quick sales as the competition is rife.

BOTTOM LINE: If you have the creative or artist touch and have an existing social media following, then you can give RedBubble a go.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE AN  ARTISTS OR CREATE YOUR OWN PRODUCT TO EARN A PASSIVE INCOME ONLINE

With the affiliate marketing business model, you DO NOT have to worry about after sales-service, or customer support, or delivery queries.

You earn money by promoting other people's products or services via your website. That means you DO NOT have to worry about designing or creating your own product.

You get to choose the niche or topic for your online business. You also have freedom in promoting more than just one affiliate program. More sources of revenue for your business.

Here is a breakdown of the 4-step process of affiliate marketing

RedBubble is a fascinating concept, mine  I have never heard of it until today. Looks very interesting with so many different areas where you can use this, a great example of your shared neat features. I like how you shared the information for a beginner, and what they have to do, making this work. Need to bookmark this article and review it more closely,

I have been digitally drawing a lot these days. And I can’t wait to start using it to put my designs on t-shits and mugs. I like that they pay through PayPal and that the threshold is rather low, 20USD is affordable. I would like to sign up as an artist right now. Thanks for giving us these tips on how to sign up.
